The walnuts have been shaken loose from their browning trees
and are now gently drying in racks and and ancient sechoirs, in
the mid-autumn sunshine. As too are racks of tobacco. The sweet
chestnuts have all been hoovered-up, bagged and (many) exported
to New Covent Garden for roasting over braziers in the streets of
London. Apples are picked and sorted and those that escaped Andros
will soon be on the local fruit stalls. The grapes on the vine are
bursting with summer sweetness (we know, we scrumped some in the
name of research) and the vendange is nearing completion... It's
the end of another harvest in the Lot, Corrèze and Dordogne.
And in time honoured fashion, Saint-Céréens will
celbrate this weekend with the Autumn Fête in Place de La
République.

Last Saturday night saw the rock band Marilouiz live at the Au Passé
Simple, Rue de la République. To find out about what turned out
to be a good evening of good music for the many Saint-Céréens
(and Saint-Céréennes) that turned up to fill the bar,

Don't forget - every Friday, Radio Pac has a magazine programme
in English, called "Made in Corrèze". Hosted by
Brit, Julia Branch Evans, the emphasis every week is on People...
particularly Brits who have made the move to France and who have
suceeded and, occasionally, those who failed!
They hope to be able to let us have details of previous broadcasts
soon, so that you can access them via this website. Watch this space.

Don't forget, we all get an extra hour in bed on Sunday morning
(Chasse-Shooters permitting). It is the end of Summer Daylight
Saving time in most of Europe this weekend, when the clocks
go back one hour at (officially) 01h.00 GMT on Sunday Morning.
Which is 02h.00 BST (British Summer Time) But, then, we are
1 hour ahead of the UK. So, presumably, our clocks here in
France go back at 03h.00 local time. Or do they? Confused?
Oh well, fortunately, you don't have to wait up for this to
happen!
But if you are enjoying the music at the Au Passé
Simple, do you get and extra hour? Turn up and find out. See
below.

Next live music night at the music bar Au Passé Simple
is blues band, System B. Saturday 25th October.. kick off

It's the St. Céré Autumn Fête, Place de
La République this weekend. Expect scrumptious rough-pressed
apple juice (smashed by an ancient belt driven "infernal
machine"), crepes, hot chestnuts (roasting on an open
fire)... a buvette for ice cold beer and a Folk music/dancing
group at 14h.30. Oh yes, and there is a vide-grenier as well.

Being in the stunning Dordogne river valley region of the
Lot, many summer activities naturally feature water! As summer
turns gracefully to Autumn, there is still plenty to occupy.
Riding for instance. St. Céré is fortunate in
having an extremely good riding school, hacking centre and

Marie Helène Knight wishes Phil and Felix Rudge
(he's the one with the beard) "Bon Voyage"
during an early doors session at the 5-Bar, Hotel Touring.
The Rudge's are off to the UK for the winter, immediately
after having signed with their builder for the start
of their new house at St Voncent du Pendit.

Turns out that the early doors session by Phil and Felix
Rudge (as described above) was just a dress rehearsal
for what happened later... a gathering of all the usual
suspects to make sure that they got a good send-off.
Bon Voyage Phil and Felix - see you in the Spring,
when the ice melts... or when you sell your UK property...
whichever happens sooner.

Talking of "Usual Suspects", here are two known faces
about town enjoying a live music night at the Au Passé
Simple. Roscoe was spotted the following week with his
wrist all bound up, but we could not posssibly comment
on the reason!
