Here we review the week ending Saturday 17th August. We update
this website virtually everyday, as things happen, so keep checking
in.

Saturday night saw the end of the 35th St. Céré Music
Festival, as the cast of "Le Roi Carotte" took to the
stage of the Théâtre de l'Usine for the last perfomance.

|

To a thick base of sand, add a stage, a load of lasers, a bit of
fire, an electric violinist playing good Irish, loud disco music,
exotic dancers and sprinkle liberally with snow... and what have
you got? CABERET!
Parking Couzi was packed till way past midnight with a good natured
bank holiday weekend crowd, enjoying the goings on, on stage. It
kind of defies description, really, as some parts of the evening
threw up some bizarre sights. Most memorable was probably watching
a scantily clad dancing girl, on mini-stilts, whirling across the
sand through a blizzard, while the audience rapidly turned into
dancing snowmen!

The focus of the early evening shifted from the "Foosteps in
the Sand" end of town to "Apero Jazz" at the beginning
of Rue de la République and the Piano Bar, where it was standing
room only for the band "Bourbon Street". For a review
of the evening and photos, please cllick the image above to be taken

... and then they plonk one down in the middle of St. Céré.
One day it is a car park (Parking Couzi) - the next tons an tons
of golden yellow sand turn it in to a beach. Not only that, they
add a stage, a beach-sports arena and, something no beach is complete
without... a beach bar. Happy days! It's all part of the "Footprints
in the Sand" event, that lasts until Sunday 17th.

By day the beach is a sports arena, with various events taking place,
such as the beach rugby above.
Music is the main theme, with Wednesday night no exception. Danny
O'Donnell (minus camera - so no photos) waded into the evening and
sent the following (slightly garbled) report from the beach bar..
"A good night was had by all in the parking Lot in St Cere tonight,
as this roving reporter had his night on the town without the weight
of a camera to burden him. The band was on top form as they played
to a packed audience 'till around midnight. The theme was a beach
one, and the Buvette was done up like a beach hut, not the usaul
red affair, but still 2 euros a beer. All the usual suspects...
Yves, Allan, Liz, Me etc. The St. Céré Rugby team
were running the bar and no one got out of hand, as those boys have
got rather bigger in the last year... and there was at least 75
mm of sand covering the parking lot. France seems a bit chaotic
at times, but when they put on a Fete they do it with Style. PS
the sand is staying around for another week, so bring a bucket and
spade, the kids and have fun". Enough said. Ed.

Yep, Rio came to St. Céré again on Tuesday 12th as
the second summer Night Market got into full swing. To see more
of the entertainment, click the photo above to access a quick slide-show
of the dancers as they toured the streets and stalls. (If some
of the photos you are about to see are a bit blurred, it was not
because of the photographers shaking hand... it is just that the
girls would not stand still! Honest! Ed)
In the meantime, the Night market was going strong and as the crowds
swirled around the oncoming dancing girls, it was even possible
to take a few "snaps" of some of the things being sold.

We do not know who she was, but this bride, radiant,
in spite of the dull grey afternoon, was spotted wandering
serenly past the Café Voyageurs, followed by
her wedding party. Now as you know, normally, the first
you know of a wedding is when they convoy around town
several times with horns blaring. We prefer this bride's
version. She paused for just a moment... long enough
to grab the snap. We wish her... Bon Chance!

In the Auberge in Autoire, the Honey family grab a quick
beer before heading for the St. Céré Night
Market. Architect Chris, barrister Becky and sons Sam
and Nat were spending a few days in St. Céré
with friends before heading South to Perpignan and,
hopefully, a bit of sunshine!

Man about town Speedy, relaxing over a pizza and enjoying
the caberet put on by the Night Market dancing girls.

Out for a cool night stroll, Svetlana and mutt Susie
seemed to be enjoying the hustle, bustle and music at
the St. Céré Night Market.
