It must be happening... they have put up a sign!

At last, after years of arguments, delays, demonstration and battering
by heavy trucks, Puybrun is to get its' by-pass. The much awaited
road that by-passes the ancient villages of Puybrun, Betaille and
Vayrac took a few kilometres further towards completion, as it emerged
from the Dordogne river valley just short of Puybrun.
Work on the interchange and underpass to divert through traffic
away from Puybrun is now much in evidence, with the ground prepped
and heavy plant dotted about... one of which was actually working
when we visited on a Friday afternoon!
Scheduled to finish in 2009, this part of the trunk road will swallow
up some 355,000€ of the total 9.2€ million budget set
aside for the whole project.

Part of the new reforms affecting primary schools in France, is
the new requirement that all children will learn the French National
Anthem. So, to give your kids a fighting chance of keeping up with
their French peers, we publish here, not only a potted history of
La Marseillaise, the French words to this famous anthem, but an
English translation as well. As a bonus, you can also access that
memorable scene from Casablanca when "all the usual suspects"
in Rics Bar, out-sing the Nazis, with La Marseillaise. Enjoy.

Fran and Dave Sherwin braved the cool Autumn air for
a night out in the sprawling metropolis of St. Cére,
to listen to Rosendo doing his thing at the Au Passé
Simple Live Music Night. Normally tucked up snug and
warm in their beautifully restored house in Miers, we
are glad they did, for very few souls stirred in town
that night.

Felix and Phil Rudge opt for an ambulance to take them
home, after a session at the PMU. Not a gambling man,
Felix, but he is partial to the Kronenbourg 1664
they have on draught there. "Not my fault, this
ambulance", he said, "I always phone for a
taxi, but they keep sending this." he added, puzzled.
Enough said. Ed

Forget crop circles and lights in the night sky - aliens
can write and count. Well, almost - they do not know
their numbers too well. Appearing mysteriously pretty
much overnight, what do these strange markings mean?

Of course, you may know better...
