That's how much VAT you will now pay when you eat
out, rather than 19.6%. Nicolas Sarkozy promised to help restaurants
by cutting VAT, during his election campaign. He was prevented from
doing so by the EU (responding to German pressure - but, hey, let's
not get political here) until this 1st July. So the price of a meal
out should now be significantly cheaper. providing, of course, the
restaurateur passes on the saving to you! Talking of food...

Just got an e-mail asking just that. Oh what a joy...
a Curry restaurant right here in St. Céré, we thought.
Alas it is not to be... not yet, anyway, for the e-mail was from
French based (Normandy) Brit entrepeneur, Eric, who runs an internet
mail order company called appropriately enough, PacketCurry.com.
Eric says:
.. look, If you're undecided
take a risk and splash out on a couple of packets - if you don't
like them I'll send you a full refund and bunch of flowers.
Can't get fairer than that! Ed
