There is nothing like a funfair to bring out the kids and the kid
in all of us! Which is probably why St. Céré was mobbed
this weekend. Where do all those people go in Winter?
Anyway, the usual good natured crowds looked like they may well
stay away this year, as Saturday dawned damp and grey. By funfair
opening time on Saturday afternoon, the rain looked like it might
get the upper hand. A shame when you consider we just had 16 days
non-stop sunshine before... even now, after the damp weekend...
the sun shines strongly out of a bright blue sky.
"Might be as well to wait until Sunday to go into town... bit
wet today... it may clear by tomorrow", wheedled the reluctant
parent of a "can-do" 8 year old. "Get real Dad",
retorted he, "You just do not understand do you? Everyone goes
on Sunday. Which means queues at all the rides. Which means the
ride-man cuts short your time, so they can make more money. Also,
because it is raining today, even fewer people will go and I will
get even longer on the rides. I'm going today. Now. With or without
you". Bearing in mind we live 3.9 miles from General Canrobert
- determination indeed. Melting in the face of such defiance, the
deal was clinched when (ever the negotiator), he said "Anyway,
if it is still raining, you could always sit in the dry at the bar
and drink beer!
We went and a thoroughly good time was had by all.

images captured this day, click the "Octopussy" above
It even stopped raining. To such an extent, that Sunday dawned
bright and (mostly) clear, getting warm again in time for (now crowded)
St Céré to enjoy the marching bands and floats.
After a shaky start, St. Céré saw the summer out
in style.

Jeff Zima
Listening to the music, the mind drifts and, as you bite into your
Po'-Boy sandwich and reach for your ice-cold, long necked-Jax, you
can almost smell the rain-wet pecan husks underfoot and hear the
plop of feeding Sac-a-Lait, out on the bayou... dream-on!
The Big Easy came to St. Céré last week in the form
of Jeff Zima at the Café 5Céré. Chicago too,
for Jeff's easy-style takes in many Jazz and Blues influences.
The Café was packed for their regular music night (twice
a month in winter - click
here for details), although there was hardly an English voice
to be heard. Which is strange, because it is not unusual to hear
the lament from expats, that there is not a lot going on!
Last weeks music was seriously good stuff and available a hell
of lot closer than Bourbon Street! Jeff promises to be back to play
again. Next time don't miss him!

To
get an idea of what you missed, Jeff Zima has a website that you
can reach by clicking this link ... then click on the track "Shake
yer Boogie" from Jeff's Lazybones Blues CD. Enjoy.
If you fancy exploring New Orleans blues further - maybe a bit
of pure Cajun, like that classic "La Jolie Blon", why
not try out the free music service - Spotify. Pretty much everything
and anything you woiuld like to listen to, you can get for nothing
over your broadband. Instantly, because you do not have to actually
download the track on to your hardrive. You just search - click
- listen. See below - Ed.

December.

imagine, as they glide gradually out of the Alzou Valley, clawing
past the ancient village of Rocamadour on their way to.... well,
