As if you were in any doubt at all, with the temperatures
soaring in St. Céré, Summer is definitely here. It
happens every year, of course, but, somehow, it always seems to
take one by surprise. Suddenly, it seems, a celestial tap is turned
on and summer pours forth. From wondering what to do to divert all
the rain from your new foundations... in the blink of an eye, you
are left wondering whether to break out the hoses to water the new(ish)
trees!
Of course, if you are less than nine years old like the rogues
in our photo... life is easy. All you need is a lift to Lac
du Tolerme, a few mates and a watermelon or two between the
ice-creams!

Just in case this is your first June in France, or just in
case you have forgotten where you were this time last year, 21st
June is music night in France and St. Céré will do
their bit to keep the tradition going. Tradition? you ask
Well Music Night is one of those brand new "traditions"
that everyone in France has taken to. Introduced by the French Culture
Minister Jack Lang, some 25 years ago, it basically allows anyone
with a musical bent, to set up on 21 June and play music in the
streets, without having to have a licence (permis). Big deal we
hear you say? Well, in a country that is ruled by bureaucrats and
in a paper-constricted society, where just to cut somebody's grass
needs reams of paperwork, yes... sans-permis ANYTHING is a big deal
in France!
Mind you, the 21st being a Sunday this year, Saturday night
is when the fun kicks off!
See you in town - ed
