Fish and Chips

Talking about Fish and Chips... if you aren't on for a trip to Limoges Airport via Thiviers, how about a bit closer to home? Carennac, in fact. Jason and Paul are frying the night of Friday June 18th at their hostelery, La Petite Vigne, Carennac. Fish and Chips too much for the old cholesterol level?. Fear not, they also have lots else on their menu. Give them a call:

Coming... Ready or Not!

The new Brive Vallee de la Dordogne airport. Ready or Not?
You can't park that plane here!

Brive Vallée de la Dordogne Airport
These photographs of the new Brive Souillac airport were taken last week and, well... where would you go to check-in?

Bar earth predominates atBrive Soillac a week before opening.
Everything under control at the new
Brive airport

A week before opening and not a soul in sight. No beavering workmen, no firemen practising, no-one painting white lines - nothing... zilch. OK, it was a Saturday and, despite appearances, the Brive Souillac authorities seem to have had everything under control , because at 10h.20 on 15th June the first commercial airliner touched down from Paris! And you can watch the video to prove it! Click the image below.

World Cup

Kick-Off
After month (years?) of hype, the World Cup is off to less than a flying start, with England held to an inglorious draw by the USA. Millions missed the one goal England managed, by ITVHD screening a commercial at the crucial moment... doh

Researching when England would be playing, we came across this brilliant rendition of a timetable/info thingamy, which is absolutely brilliant. Whoever designed it is a genius. Tells you pretty much all you need to know... try it, click the image below.

Out and About

Going to Limoges?

Fiddlers Rest, Thiviers

Next time you have to pick-up/drop off someone at Limoges airport, do yourself a favour... make a bit of a day of it. Switch motorways at Brive, take the direction to Perigueux and get off at exit 17. Head for Thiviers via Exideuil (you could take a look at the magnificent Chateau Hautfort on the way) and there, just outside of Thiviers on the N21, on the main road to Limoges, are the best fish and chips to be had for many, many miles around! Guinness on tap too!

You'll get a warm welcome from Ronan and Jo McIntyre. They are open most evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday, but do check on their website first:

Camping Soulhol Evacuated

As the River Bave rose dangerously high, swollen to a torrent by the weeks torrential rain, evacuation was ordered as a precaution. Tents were hurriedly packed and caravans and motorhomes including many British registered, had to decamp in a hurry and spent most of the day parked in the car park of the new sports hall. Those that didn't give up on a very wet St. Céré, that is, and headed south for warmer climes. Will this weather get any better? Check the weather forecast, click the link below.
