The King's Speech

The Kings Speech - English language screening - Biars
Version Original - VO
Coming Soon to Biars

VO Version - Coming Soon
The chap that runs the MJC cinema in St. Céré won't book English language (VO) films, because, apparently, Les Anglais don't go to the cinema.

Fortunately, the Robert Doisneau cinema in Biars is a bit more adventurous and every month or so they will screen an English language film. We will bring you news of these Version Originale (VO) screenings as and when.

Next Up is the King's Speech, that multi-award winning, Oscar dripping "Very British film". To see the trailer and screening times, click on Colin Firth, its star, below.

Fly Me to...

Brive Vallée de la Dordogne international airport
CityJet to London

Choice at Last?
At last, choice is beginning to creep in to Brive - Vallée de la Dordogne International, as more routes and airlines are introduced. We thought we had better do a snoop around to bring you the latest information.

London
Well, there is still no sign of Ryanair or, in fact, any airline offering cheap flights to London, to give CityJet a bit of competition. The result is, whilst CityJet's headline fare is still flagged up as £59, it is difficult to find a flight for that. Certainly, there is no sign of Ryanair's "pile them high sell them cheap" philosophy, and if you are looking for a 7 euro flight including taxes, then you are stuck with Rodez for the moment.

CityJet commence their summer schedule on 8th April, with flights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, until 25th July, when they put on an extra flight on Mondays as well, until 5th September... just right for that long weekend you have been promising yourself!

At the moment. CityJet say they will operate their 3 times a week service until 29th October, when they will make a further announcement regarding a reduced winter service.

Further information: www.cityjet.com

Paris, Nice and Ajaccio
Yep... the Cannes film festival in May is now less than a couple of hours away, with the launch of a new route by Airlinair. The idea is you board at Brive, the aircraft hops over to Limoges, picks up more people and then it's down to the sunny Riviera at Nice. The Saturday service starts 16th April and runs to 17th September. Oh, after Nice, the aircraft hops over to Ajaccio in Corsica! Airlinair also operate a 3 flights a day, 6 days a week service to Paris (Orly).

Further information: www.airlinair.com

Manchester
Jet2.com start their service to Manchester on 16th May and will fly twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays until September. They are, of course, taking bookings now.

Out and About

Lunch Hot Spots...

Lunch is NOT jsut for wimps in rural France!

You know how it is... the sun shines, you get restless, you get in the car to visit and then... you just meander. Have a look see what the winter has left!. One such sunny-day meander took us from friends in Carennac, though Miers and back to St. Céré vie Lavergne. Yes, we realise it is not the most direct of routes but, well, this was a meander!

Miers
First stop was Miers, which seemed pretty dead. The plan was to stop at the Leon D'Or for a long cold one, but on a drive-by, it seemed closed, with the shutters half rolled down. Parking-up in the square to stretch the legs, on closer inspection, the place seemed that it might just be open. So we tried the door...

Open?! Not only was it open, but it was heaving. Every table was occupied and groaning with plates of food and many happy faces were evident. There were people actually waiting for a table! If you have never been to the Leon D'Or in Miers, don't be fooled. It may look small, but it is like the tardis inside. If you add it to your Lunchtime possibility list, get there early!

Lavergne
Long on our list to check out, had been the Hotel Restaurant Limargue as good comments about the place had filtered down even to us! So, after a cold beaded one... on to Lavergne

Straight-off, it was obvious the place was open... the car park was packed with artisan vehicles. Always a good sign of good food and good value in these parts. Popping-in for a look see, the story was the same as Miers. Every table full and a great hum of contented conversation. Grabbing a card from the fluent-in-English Dutch patron, the intention to return to eat one day soon was firmly planted in the psyche and onward we went.

Joy of joys, this week brought an invitation to lunch and, the chosen venue...?

The Hotel Restaurant Limargue, Lavergne

You're sure of a warm welcome
from Nicole and Pim
at Le Limargue, Lavergne

In we walked at the height of the lunchtime service and with no reservation. No worries, for from the moment genial host, Dutchman Pim showed us to a table, we could not have been made more welcome. Homemade minestrone with parmesan to sprinkle and bread to dunk... a generous slice of homemade bacon and tomato quiche, roast pork and crisp, sauté potatoes, cheeseboard, a yoghurt pud with raspberry coulis, coffee and red wine all for 12.50 euros. Magic. Can't recommend it enough. Go... but, be warned, don't plan to do too much in the afternoon after lunch!
