St. Céré Hostage

Daniel Larribe - hostage
Daniel Larribe

Still in Captivity
All seems to have gone quiet, following the release of 3 hostages in February, including Saint-Céréen Francoise Larribe.

However, her husband Daniel Larribe (seen in a photograph released by their Islamist terrorist captors - above), is still held hostage by the terror group (AQIM), which aligns itself under the umbrella of Al Qaeda,

Spare the remaining hostages and their families a thought as you go about your daily business. We will be showing the following message on this website (updated daily) until they are released:

St. Céré Judo Club Celebrate 40 Years
The St. Céré Judo club held a special event day Sunday 10th April, to celebrate their 40th Anniversary.

The day consisted of bouts by the young members until, that is, in a surprise move, instructors Christian Boutonnet and Emmanuel Berge pounced on the watching parents and cajoled them onto the mat to take part... mostly as victims of the unequal combat!

Fortunately lunch intervened and sanity returned.... until the afternoon session, that is, when further punishment was meted out to both kids and parents, as a demonstration of expert unarmed combat floored one and all!

New Suburb

New Suburb - Building Progresses

St. Céré Building Boom
The new-build building boom shows no sign of abating because of the uncertain financial situation in France, as the new suburb/lotissement on the outskirts of town takes shape.

As the picture shows, some of the houses are now at roof level, as the St. Céré urban sprawl creeps inexorably up the hill from St. Céré, on the Leyme road out of town.

Version Original - VO
Coming Soon to Biars

VO Version - English Languiage
The chap that runs the MJC cinema in St. Céré won't book English language (VO) films, because, apparently, Les Anglais don't go to the cinema.

Fortunately, the Robert Doisneau cinema in Biars is a bit more adventurous and every month or so they will screen an English language film. We will bring you news of these Version Originale (VO) screenings as and when.

The latest Version Original (V.O.) movie coming to Biars, is True Grit, a story of vengence set in the wild west of 1870. A superb remake of the 1969 John Wayne classic, this version, in which the newcomer Hailee Steinfeld received an Oscar nomination, stars Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon.

Have You Seen My Boyfriend!

Praying Mantis at Insectopia
Praying Mantis can talk!

We had occasion to be in Padirac the other day, so took the opportunity to see how the new owners of Insectopia were getting on with their renovation plans.

It is plain to see that Rob and Theresa have had a very busy winter and have transformed the place, re-bugged it and have declared it open for the summer season.

It is fascinating... no really... no matter what you think about bugs, I defy you not to get involved as you peer into the displays.

And, yes, Praying Mantis do talk... they can prove it. Best listen to the female of the species though... that's our advice!

Lunch in Lavergne
Long on our list to check out, had been the Hotel Restaurant Limargue as good comments about the place had filtered down even to us!

Straight-off, it was obvious the place was open... the car park was packed with artisan vehicles. Always a good sign of good food and good value in these parts.

Nicole and Pim - Le Limargue, Lavergne
You're sure of a warm welcome
from Nicole and Pim
at Le Limargue, Lavergne

In we walked at the height of the lunchtime service and with no reservation. No worries, for from the moment genial host, Dutchman Pim showed us to a table, we could not have been made more welcome. Home-made minestrone with parmesan to sprinkle and bread to dunk... a generous slice of home-made bacon and tomato quiche, roast pork and crisp, sauté potatoes, cheeseboard, a yoghurt pud with raspberry coulis, coffee and red wine all for 12.50 euros. Magic. Can't recommend it enough. Go... but, be warned, don't plan to do too much in the afternoon after lunch!
