War Comes to St. Céré

There is a footnote to this story... wounded, Major George Hiller managed to escape and made his way eventually to the hilltop village of Menargues,
near Carennac. Here he was taken in by a villager who nursed him back to health whilst risking certain death by harbouring him. After the war, Major Hiller came back to this house in Menargues with his wife. He died in the 70's, Mrs Hiller still visits in the summer. There is a plaque on the wall of the house behind the church (see below)

There seems to be a discrepancy in the dates of the two memorials regarding the shooting of Major Hiller
