St. Céré is situated in the Dordogne valley region
of Department 46 - the Lot.
The Lot is one of eight dèpartements that make up
the Midi-Pyrénées region, in the South West of France
(the others being Ariège, Aveyron, Haute Garonne, Gers, Haute
Pyrénées, Tarn and Tarn and Garonne. All in all, a
huge chunk of France.
Getting to St. Céré is not difficult and it is now
just becoming a whole lot easier as the much awaited new airport
of Brive-Souillac (now called Brive - Vallée de la Dordogne
Airport) opens in June 2010. Situated just outside the small Lot
village of Cressensac, the new airport is eventually expected to
attract no-frills airlines such as Ryanair, Flybe or easyJet. However,
only CityJet have announced plans to date, to operate a 3 times
a week service. (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) into London City Airport.
The new Brive airport is only 30-40 minutes from the centre of St
Céré. Meanwhile, the best cheap flights are still
to Rodez (1hr 30mins), Bergerac (2hrs 15mins), Limoges (2hrs 15mins),
or Toulouse (2hrs 15mins).
The A20 Paris to Toulouse autoroute is just 45 mins away, just South
of Brive (junction 52 when heading South), which means the channel
ports are about 8 hrs drive from St. Céré, with Paris
some 5 hrs drive.

Airports to St Céré, together with mileages and approximate
driving times, please select a place name from the drop down menu

The new (part completed) A89 east west motorway intersects the A20
at Brive, bringing Bordeaux and the Atlantic coast that much nearer.
Have breakfast in St Céré and you could get in a late
ski on the Alpine slopes around Geneva the same day. Why you would
bother, though, as there are perfectly good (and inexpensive!) ski
resorts within 1hr 20 minutes drive of St Céré - Super
Lioran in the Cantal.
There is an express train service from Paris to Brive and then on
to our nearest mainline station, Gramat. Rumours abound about a
TGV service into the new Brive-Souillac airport from Paris, but,
at the moment, they would seem to be just that - rumours.
